Guide
TikTok Banner Size
The short answer: make your banner 3240 × 1440 px and split it into three 1080 × 1440 tiles. The rest of this page explains why, and where TikTok covers parts of each tile. Have your image already? Split it into tiles or go straight to the TikTok banner maker & splitter.
TikTok banner size chart
Every size below is in pixels. All tiles are 1080 px wide, the width TikTok uses for full-quality posts.
These are the recommended sizes this tool splits to. Before you post, check them against TikTok's current upload screen.
| Layout | Full image | Each post | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single banner 1×3 (default) | 3240 × 1440 | 1080 × 1440 | Three posts across your top row |
| 2×3 grid | 3240 × 2880 | 1080 × 1440 | Two rows, six posts |
| 3×3 grid | 3240 × 4320 | 1080 × 1440 | A nine-post mural |
| Full-screen vertical | 3240 × 1920 | 1080 × 1920 | Posts that also fill the screen when opened |

Why each tile is 3:4
TikTok posts are 9:16, the shape of a phone screen. On your profile, though, the grid shows each post as a 3:4 thumbnail cut from the middle of that 9:16 frame. Three 3:4 thumbnails side by side form a 9:4 strip, and 9:4 at 1080 px per tile is 3240 × 1440.
If you upload 1080 × 1440 photos, the grid shows them whole. If you prefer posts that also fill the screen when opened, use 1080 × 1920 tiles and keep the banner in the middle 1440 px of each one — the splitter's Full screen 9:16 option does exactly that.
Sizes for every layout and use
The one-row banner is the most common, but the same 1080 px tiles build every other layout. Pick the canvas by how many posts you want the picture to cover and whether the posts should also look complete when opened full screen.
Single cover: 1080 × 1440
One post or video cover that fills its grid spot exactly, without a cut-off title.
2×3 grid: 3240 × 2880
Six 1080 × 1440 posts in two rows. Only the top row can be pinned, so post the rest last.
3×3 grid: 3240 × 4320
Nine 1080 × 1440 posts for a full-screen mural on your profile. Best for launches you keep for a few days.
Full-screen banner: 3240 × 1920
Three 1080 × 1920 posts. The grid shows the middle 1440 px; the rest is seen when someone opens a post.
Safe zones: what TikTok covers
Two labels sit on top of every tile in the grid. Keep faces, logos and words out of these areas, or they will be hidden.
View count, bottom left
A play icon and the number of views sit over the bottom-left corner of every tile.
Pinned label, top left
Once you pin a post, a small Pinned badge appears in its top-left corner. A banner is usually pinned, so plan for it.
The seams between tiles
The grid leaves a thin gap between posts. Text that crosses a seam breaks apart, so keep each word inside one tile.
A margin of about 6%
Leaving the outer 6% of each tile free of detail covers both labels and the seams. The splitter's safe-zone check measures this band.
Why uploads get cropped
Wrong shape
A square or 4:5 tile is trimmed to 3:4 in the grid. Start from 3:4 tiles and nothing is cut.
Posting as a video cover
Video covers are 9:16; the grid shows only the middle 3:4. Keep the banner in the middle 1440 px, or use the Full-screen option.
Edited in the TikTok app
Zooming or adjusting the photo in the upload screen changes the crop. Upload the tile as it is.
Labels on top
Nothing is cut there, but the view count and Pinned label hide the corners. See the safe zones above.
Resolution and file format
TikTok scales photo posts to 1080 px wide, so there is no benefit in uploading larger tiles — and smaller ones look soft on newer phones. Export at exactly 1080 px wide for the sharpest result.
PNG keeps text and flat colours crisp and is what BannerSplitter downloads by default. JPG works for photos if you keep the quality high; heavy compression shows first as blocky edges around text. HEIC photos from an iPhone can be split directly in Safari.
Colours can shift slightly after upload because TikTok re-encodes every image. Keep important text on a solid or high-contrast background so it stays readable after compression.
Different phones, same banner
The grid is always three columns wide, so the banner keeps its proportions on every phone; only its size on screen changes. Very narrow phones and the desktop website can crop thumbnails slightly differently, which is another reason to keep important things away from the edges.
Once your tiles are ready, follow how to post a banner on TikTok to publish and pin them so they line up.
On the desktop website the grid shows more columns on wide screens, so a banner can wrap differently there. Most profile visits happen in the app, which always uses three columns, so design for the phone first and check the desktop view only if it matters to your audience.
FAQ
What is the best size for a TikTok banner?
3240 × 1440 px, split into three 1080 × 1440 posts. Each post then fills its 3:4 spot in the profile grid exactly.
Can I use a different size?
Yes. Any wide image works: the TikTok banner maker & splitter fits or fills it to the right shape. Smaller images just look softer.
What size is each tile in a 3×3 grid?
Still 1080 × 1440. The full image is 3240 × 4320, three tiles across and three down.
Why is my banner cropped after posting?
Usually the tile was not 3:4, or it was zoomed in the TikTok upload screen. See "Why uploads get cropped" above.
Does TikTok compress banner photos?
Yes, every upload is re-encoded. Start from exact 1080 px wide tiles and keep text on a high-contrast background so it survives compression.
What size is a TikTok banner for a full-screen post?
Use 3240 × 1920 and split it into three 1080 × 1920 tiles. The grid shows the middle 1440 px of each one, and the whole tile fills the screen when opened.
Is the TikTok banner size the same on every phone?
The proportions are the same everywhere: three 3:4 tiles per row. Only the size on screen changes, so a 3240 × 1440 banner lines up on every phone.
